So if you haven't heard already there is a song by ABBA called Money Money Money. It's quite catchy but it tells you a very interesting story. Essentially here are the lyrics
I work all night, I work all day to pay the bills I have to pay
Ain't it sad?
And still there never seems to be a single penny left for me
That's too bad
In my dreams I have a plan
If I got me a wealthy man
I wouldn't have to work at all, I'd fool around and have a ball
Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich man's world
Money, money, money
Always sunny
In the rich man's world
Aha
All the things I could do
If I had a little money
It's a rich man's world
It's a rich man's world
A man like that is hard to find but I can't get him off my mind
Ain't it sad?
And if he happens to be free I bet he wouldn't fancy me
That's too bad
So I must leave, I'll have to go
To Las Vegas or Monaco
And win a fortune in a game, my life will never be the same
Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich man's world
Money, money, money
Always sunny
In the rich man's world
Aha
All the things I could do
If I had a little money
It's a rich man's world
Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich man's world
Money, money, money
Always sunny
In the rich man's world
Aha
All the things I could do
If I had a little money
It's a rich man's world
It's a rich man's world
Where Can I Find Happiness In Life?
But the thing is “it’s only money”….. It really is JUST money and it is your everyday necessity. You use it in all sorts of ways, shapes and forms every day of your life... you need it, you want it, you think you always need more of it. And... we judge each other by how much we have of it and yet, it is JUST money! It is merely paper and coins.
Years (and years and years) ago we bartered for what we wanted and needed. History books tell us that we would trade cows for pigs or chickens. As we all know (hopefully), if you have a chicken, it can lay eggs. You can eat eggs and grow more chickens; all at the same time! Was this investing as it kept giving returns?
And at that time, you would have added a tangible value to those items you were bartering with. My how things have changed… now we use (quite literally) paper and plastic… Our mindset has completely changed since those olden days!
And... if you don't have money (or enough money), you would feel sad, depressed, stressed, and tired... But it is only money
You Need It
In your life, you need money, no matter how you feel about it. It gets you the things that you want and need. However, sometimes, I bet you take it for granted, assuming it will always be there... but you sure as hell notice when it is not there and readily available to yourself….
Essentially, if you don’t have money, you don’t get fed, pay your bills or go out and have a good time… Without money, you (and all of us) can do nothing… At least, that is what we are led to believe, anyway.
How Much Do You Need
Like all of us, you want more money. No matter how much you have, you always want more, but never seem to earn or have any spare.
As a budgeting specialist, I am firmly of the belief that we (and you) just may already have “enough”. It is what you do with it that really counts. This commodity that we call money rules our lives and it really shouldn’t.
You should be able to master it, not be controlled by it.
We Judge Each Other About It
We all judge each other by how much money we have. If you are rich, you are deemed to be successful and if you are poor, you are somehow deemed a failure. This should not be the case AT ALL…… There are some very rich people that have not earnt a cent of their ridiculous fortune from an inheritance, trust fund, or alike... and likewise, there are some people in the world who are extremely poor, through no fault of their own… such as people living in third world countries or have been affected by war.
So why are we so quick to judge each other? Everyone, and even yourself, are so programmed to think that if you have lots of money and a flash car, that you have earnt every scent and that you are somehow making a better life than someone with less.
However, it is ONLY money… Happiness comes from our experiences and the togetherness you feel. Money certainly is an element to achieving this, but having more won't make you happier, and having less should not make you sadder.
I am sure you have heard of the lonely rich person, who has no true friends because their friends only care about wealth and if it disappeared so would those friends.
Let's Be Happy
So what is the next step? You should be happy regardless of how rich you feel. You most likely already have enough money but are probably living beyond your means.
So if you are feeling stressed, tired, or fatigued about money, you should get a Spending Plan (as a budget never works). You can book in here for a no-obligation chat to learn about how a Spending Plan can help you.
